RE: RE: Montana LLC

Many states are now prosecuting people for deliberately avoiding paying state sales taxes by closing loopholes in state law. MT lawyers don't care about any laws other than MT or federal law. The MT law firm will not defend you in IL courts on this issue. This situation is discussed frequently on many RVing forums. It may be time for you to hire a lawyer experienced in this type problem. If you are paying payments on your RV, there is a lien. That MT lawyer will know who holds the lien, and it should be in your papers.

RE: Electrical question..

Sorry..The wire is coming from the circuit box itself with the breakers in it. Im thinking it must just be a ground that needs to get attached to the frame somehow..I hope. Your posts sound like you should hire a qualified electrician to examine your trailer wiring. Depending on where the bare copper wire originates it may be the trailer ground wire.

RE: Fluid Change

What you propose is an exercise in futility. Most automatic transmission systems hold about 15 quarts. The pan only holds about 4-5 quarts, the torque covertor holds the rest. Changing only 4-5 quarts and leaving the rest is a waste of money and time. The in-pan "filter" is actually a screen that most manufacturer's only recommend changing when actual transmission work must be performed. For confirmation, just visit any auto parts store and ask to see a "filter" for your transmission.

RE: Security & crime rates for CG and state parks?

With all the security precautions you already use, as stated in the we've been robbed thread, you do now sound paranoid. I've been camping for close to 55 years so far. The only thing we've ever had broken into was a cooler. The culprits were raccons! That was actually my fault, I forgot to place a large weight on the lid.

RE: Space heater with exposed holding tanks?

Our last RV had exposed tanks. We never got concerned about freezing anything until daytime temperatures failed to reach the mid 40's and night-time lows fell below the high 20's. Have you considered covering the underneath with cheap plastic 4X8'board? It's looks like plastic "cardboard".

RE: It Is a common thing --- I happen to me

While it is very serious and dangerous I disagree with the statement that it is a very common occurrence. Considering the probably hundreds of thousands if not millions of times a year that 5ers are hitched and unhitched the percentage of drops is likley very low. Of course that is of no help if it does happen to you. I agree.

RE: Eternabond and Liquid Roof

Locate a RV service center that knows how to use their SealTech leak detection system. When my dealer could not find a leak in our new 5er, a technician used the Sealtech machine and found the leak I complained about plus 3 more tiny leaks. Your dealer was probably right though; EPDM roof material is warranted for 12 years. If/When ours requires replacing I will have a metal roof covering installed. With care they will far outlast the RV.

RE: Refrigerator problem (No Electric)

Download the service manual, installation manual, for a Norcold N821 for test procedures, and problem solving.

RE: When does everyone winterize?

When day-time highs no longer reach the mid 40's,and night-time lows reach the high 20's. Then again, often we take the 5er to the RGV for the winter. :B

RE: F450 OTD Price?

How about a 2008 Ford F450 for $36,324.

RE: 1/2 ton & 32' 5th wheel

If you want to remove the ego factor from your decision, use this fifth wheel weight calculator to accurately determine what your truck will safely tow and handle.

RE: Is this to much weight

Looking to buy a 09 Montana 3665RE 5Th wheel dry weight 12,500. Have a 05 GMC 2500 HD 4x4 crew cab 6.6 turbo duramax short bed. Is this to much for this truck. Have a Jayco 31 BHDS T/T towes fine. If you wish to accurately match your truck to a trailer, or visa versa, use this weight calculator . You'll note it requires actual weights, not published weights. It also offers you the option of selecting the standard 20% safety factor. That calculator eliminates the human ego factor.

RE: Gear Ratio and Tire Size

Whatever you decide-replace those "P" rated tires with "LT" tires!

RE: Water filter winterization by pass

FWIW, I use a whole-house water filter in my intake hose. I just remove the filter, empty out the water and store. Ten years now with the same filter housing.

RE: 1/2 ton & 32' 5th wheel

No you don't have enough truck! A Spinnaker 32CKT has a GVW of 14,300#, with an empty weight of near 12K#. That is a full load for a 3/4T diesel pickup. Figuring a 18% pin weight, that's 2,160# pin weight for an empty trailer.

RE: Ford said "NO" to K&N Air Filter

Unless the laws of physics have been rewritten, there is only one way to increase air flow through the same area, assuming air pressure remains the same, decrease restriction! This ISO 5011 standards testing on a Duramax engine is proof. The bottom line is each of us is free to spend our money and use our resources purchased by same, any way we choose. If your motor fails, it's your money, none other are affected.

RE: Want to buy fifth wheel--can I tow

If you wish to properly and safely match your tow vehicle to either a fifth wheel/gooseneck, or a "bumper hitch" TT; use this accurate and easy to use weight calculator. You'll note that it offers the option to calculate in the 20% safety factor used by most full-timers.

RE: Window Tint-Keeping Cool

My truck has limo-tint( 80%) on all windows except the windshield(naturally). I use a folding cardboard sun-shield for that. When I use the cardboard, the interior temperature is really noticably cooler when we return. My truck is black, which heats up quickly, but the tint seems to keep the cab cooler in that blazing TX,NM,AZ,FL sun. That would be illegal out here in the west. At least CA and WA don't allow any tinting on the windshield, drivers side front or passenger front windows UNLESS it was factory ordered and installed. Dangerous for the officers doing a traffic stop if they can't see in.

Dangerous for the officers doing a traffic stop if they can't see in. Ya, it's illegal in MO also, if you have your vehicle licensed in MO. If your vehicle is licensed in a state that allows such tinting (Indiana) it is legal until you reach the time limit requiring licensing in MO. You are right though, this tinting rightfully makes LEO's nervous. I have 2 cousins that are Indiana State policemen, they recommend lowering the drivers window and placing both hands on top the steering wheel if stopped.
